“Shinari:” The Future of Mazda Unveiled in Milan

Bradenton MazdaBradenton Mazda announces the unveiling of the all new Mazda Shinari concept car recently unveiled in Milan, Italy.

The new face of Mazda was unveiled in Milan, the international epicenter of design and fashion. Instead of being introduced in the auto shows, like other brands have always done, Mazda took their latest styling endeavor to a whole other level.

“Shinari” roughly translates to “resistance to being bent” which serves as the basis for Mazda’s new design language. This idea will serve as the basis for Mazda’s new design language which will continue to influence the styling cues of future Mazda models.

Ikuo Maeda, Mazda’s global head of design and chief designer of the RX-8 and Mazda2 has been working with Mazda for almost 30 years. Mazda design runs in his blood, his father, Matasburo Maeda, headed the first RX-7 design in the 1970s. Maeda’s new design theme, KODO, is replacing the wavy and flowing lines of the previous Nagare style with KODO. KODO style elements are more organic and take cues from the natural world, with end result having a solidified and powerful style. Maeda describes KODO as bringing form to life, focusing on speed, tension, and allure.

“There are few products of industrial design that can be compared to living entities which convey energetic motion and which invite affection,” Maeda says. “It is this intrinsically emotional appeal of the car that I wish to express when creating Mazda cars.”

The Shinari concept was developed in all three Mazda design centers, Japan, Germany, and the United States. The final design is complicated, with more intersecting lines and a moving and changing surface area that is effected by light. The front of the Shinari car also features the “signature wing,” a new styling cue representing the new design era.

Shinari encompasses every inch of the exterior and interior. The headlights even have a natural look, effectively mimicking the iris of an animal’s eye. Rear view cameras replace standard rear view mirrors and trick door handles open at the touch of a button. Inside, the Shinari element is expressed through aluminum trim, leather surfaces, gauges that model popular watches, a glass roof, and a driver focused cockpit seat while the style of the passenger seat is dedicated to comfort.

The new Shinari style will be showcased in future Mazda models. Your Florida Mazda dealer is looking forward to the new Mazda models with the Shinari and KODO style. Check your Bradenton Mazda dealer for upcoming Shinari model releases.
